10-year-old Jeanna from Breda is a big fan of the football club NAC and she plays for amateur club Groen Wit. When she was approached via social media by a player’s agent of an NAC player, she couldn’t believe her luck. The man promised her a signed shirt and a personal meeting with a player after a match against Sparta. That didn’t happen, because the so-called broker turned out to be a scammer, NAC reports.
The scammer contacted Jeanna via Facebook and WhatsApp. Jeanna’s father decided to call the man and even after that it still all seemed to be about a real player’s agent. The man himself would bring a signed shirt to the girl’s home after the match against Sparta. She also got to meet a player. Those were all false promises.
The family therefore decided to contact NAC to ask what happened. They have also filed a report against the scammer. NAC could not do much about the scammer’s trick, but the club wanted to do something for the young fan. That’s why Jeanna and her father were allowed to come behind the scenes at NAC last Sunday.
“It’s a small effort to make her happy.”
As icing on the cake, they also got to meet some players, including captain Jan van den Bergh. Jeanna was given a small tour of the stadium and was allowed onto the field during a warm-up. She and her father sat in the press stand during the NAC match against Heerenveen. Afterwards she had her picture taken with Van den Bergh.
The captain also gave Jeanna his match shirt with signatures. “It’s a small effort to make her happy,” he says. “It is good that NAC has solved it for her in this way and immediately takes the trouble to warn children and other supporters about this.”
