The British retail group JD Sports Fashion Plc was able to further expand its majority stake in the Spanish online sporting goods retailer Deporvillage SL. Through its regional holding company Iberian Sports Retail Group SL, the group has acquired an 18 percent stake from Deporvillage founders Xavier Pladellorens and Àngel Corcuera, JD Sports announced on Friday. The purchase price was therefore 19.8 million euros.

The group now holds a total of 98 percent of the shares in the e-commerce specialist founded in 2010, which is active in Spain, Italy, Portugal and France. JD Sports announced that put and call options had also been agreed for the remaining two percent, which are still held by Pladellorens and Corcuera. The most recent transaction marks the end of an era for Deporvillage: the two founders would now “after a transition phase" resign from management of the company, it said in a statement.
