A 26-year-old man from Utrecht has been sentenced to a 120-hour community service for serious abuse on the cycle path at Erica, of which 80 hours are conditional. After a fight over driving, the man hit the other multiple bone fractures in the face.
The incident happened last year on 9 June after the Hello Festival in Emmen. The suspect visited that festival together with his girlfriend and his parents. They were then by bike on the way towards Erica and ended up in a procession of cyclists.
The procession rode with a snail’s pocket, De Utrechter told the police judge in Assen today. The man said on the call to go a tooth, the man said. Eventually his girlfriend took the lead. She passed the group through the roadside. He followed her, scolding the group: “Ride through losers”.
According to the suspect, he stopped because someone pulled his luggage rack. He was prevented to continue cycling and couldn’t go anywhere, the man said. His mother came to stand with him and asked him to apologize. He did that. “And I couldn’t go any further.” For fear of getting blows, he hit the first the best in the face.
The victim fell on the ground. The injury was strong. In addition to different fractures, the man also had a brain haemorrhage. He was brought to the hospital by a family member. To this day, the victim does not feel a part of his jaw. “It’s deaf, I have difficulty chewing,” he told the judge during the session.
The defense of bad weather wiped the public prosecutor off the table. “Only having fear is not enough,” said the prosecutor. Moreover, the group was again busy continuing their way. “There was no reason to hit,” the officer outlined. He demanded a 120 -hour community service. The judge took more account of the personal circumstances of the Utrechter.
The victim has been awarded compensation of almost 11,000 euros.
