Javier Milei did it again. In his commented national chain on Friday night, the president leaned for a phrase from the movie “Batman: The Knight of the Night” and became the laughing of social networks. In the film, released in 2012, the archiene of the bat man, the guason, speaks of “unstoppable force” that clashes against “an immovable object” to refer to his fight with the Gothic City hero. By chain, Milei used the same words, only this time the “unstoppable force” was embodied by him and the “immovable object” against which he collided was “the caste”, that is, traditional politics. It is assumed that the first force, the one that attacks at full speed, is taken to the second, which is still, which represents the old or the status quo. But, of course, it is not what ends up happening with Batman and the Guason, which leads us to ask if the metaphor is well chosen, beyond Milei – as always – does not clarify what its authorship is.
Actually, the guilt of plagiarism in this case is not strictly his but of his star advisor Santiago Caputo, the person in charge – as he knows – to write his speeches. Caputo is a fan of pop culture and cinemarographic references. In a remembered speech that his boss delivered to the UN in the United States, for example, the advisor made him repeat a monologue of the series “The West Wing”, in which the fiction president of the White House, Josiah Bartlet, speaks to their collaborators and lists their convictions. It is a paragraph of almost a minute, plagiarized from end to a tail by Milei, Acasi without knowing of the robbery while pronouncing his words. When the matter transcended, a few hours later, the inevitable pull of ears for the advisor arrived. Caputo is a lover of “The West Wing” and says he saw the series complete about nine times. Was it an armed tribute?
But not everything is the responsibility of the consultant. For example, the one who plagued the slogan of “Long live the Freedom Freedom”, cry of War of the Mileists, was not him but the president himself. The phrase, as Juan recordois denounced opposite, is from the historian and writer Osvaldo Bayer, someone who in life was in the ideological antipodes of the libertarian leader and who used his “VLLC” as an anarchist harangue and not as an empty propaganda of the free market. In the video that accompanies this note, Bayer is seen by pronouncing those words that Milei later took a borrowing without saying where they came from. At the time when the libertarian coined that foreign phrase, his Caputo advisor was not yet part of the space, which exchanges it in this case.
And then there are the president’s books, one after another. In the totality of his work, as news has been denouncing, the plagiarisms of local and international authors are repeated, alive and dead, known and unknown, and even an IMF official as a gita Gopinath or a group of researchers from CONICET. Nobody forgives Milei with his systematic theft. And that in the preparation of his books, which is known, Caputo did not participate.
