Desperation instead of enthusiasm: According to the Hollywood star, the fact that Javier Bardem (54) is playing in the current “Arielle” film initially caused shock reactions at home.

When he told his then seven-year-old daughter Luna that he was in the film, she replied, “What? You play Arielle?” Then she cried, he said in an interview with the Funke media group. Only when he explained to her that he was playing the mermaid’s father did she calm down and say: “Wow”.

But something else made the Oscar winner ponder the role. “My torso. This king has a massive physique. And I thought to myself: What a bummer, I have to do a lot of units in the gym for that.” Fortunately, the director said to him: “You get armor, you don’t need it.”

Director Rob Marshall’s The Little Mermaid, The Little Mermaid, opens in cinemas this Thursday (May 25). The Spaniard Bardem plays King Triton, Ariel’s father.
