Jasper Stuyven European and Belgian gravel bike champion

The European and Belgian Clay Court Championships in Oud-Heverlee in Flemish Brabant were a dress rehearsal for the world championship next year. Wout van Aert and Mathieu van der Poel did not start, but there were many well-known participants such as: gravel world champion Gianni Vermeersch, home rider Jasper Stuyven, the retiring Greg Van Avermaet and Tim Merlier.

Tiffany Cromwell wins the women’s race

Among the women, Australian Tiffany Cromwell was the best after a race of 130 kilometers, after a late attack. The Dutch Lorena Wiebes sprinted to second place and the European title, ahead of cyclocross world champion Fem van Empel and the Italian Elena Cecchini. The Belgian title went to Marthe Truyen, number three in this year’s Paris-Roubaix.

Clay World Cup Italy

Next week the Clay World Cup will be held in Veneto, Italy. It is the second time that the world championship takes place there. Gianni Vermeersch will try to defend his title as world champion next week. For the women, Pauline Ferrand-Prévot is the title defender.
