Finland is unable to honor Jasmi Joensuu’s fine Sprint World Cup victory, the first Finnish skier since the 2006-07 season.
Joensuu went to study and sports at Denver University in the United States in the fall of 2015. And enjoyed four years.
– Departure to Denver was a great choice for him. Jasmi grew up there as a human being and as an athlete. He practiced very professionally there. He clearly had the goal of continuing skiing after the university-not everyone has this, says the Olympic Committee’s Snow Specifice Sports Officer Toni Roponen.
Roponen is an experienced ski coach. He coached Matti Heikkinen as a world champion.
The Haukipudas worked as the head coach of the Denver Country Skiing Team for one season, but not at the time Joensuu represented the school.
– Jasmmi took full advantage of the US school system.
Dare to say
According to Toni Roponen, the top sports director of the Olympic Committee, Jasmi Joensuu is a very confident athlete. Pasi Liesimaa
Roponen knows Joensuu’s strengths.
– He is extremely confident about his own activities. It has been since returned from the United States. Jasmi also dares to say his own goals out loud.
Joensuu is coached by Estonian Kalmer Tramm.
– Jasmi works out in a very different way than other Finnish skiers. Each exercise has a purpose, he or she has very little, if not at all, workouts that do not have a purpose, says Roponen.
A clear focus
Jasmi Joensuu studied and practiced at the University of Denver for four years. Pasi Liesimaa
Joensuu focuses very well on sprint skiing.
– This year, he has dared to miss competitions that do not support success in sprint. It’s wisdom. He is able to ski the sprint in both free and traditional.
– The victory of the overall cup requires that you are in good shape throughout the season.
Joensuu is 28 years old.
– Jasm has had a typical Finnish road in terms of age. Sprint skiing is also a matter of endurance sports. He has evolved all the time and I believe that his best years are still ahead, Roponen says.
