Winner of the sprint cup last season Jasmi Joensuu29, was left out of the final when competing in the traditional sprint in Trondheim on Friday.
The trip to Joensuu looked good and the skis slipped. However, the Finn finished third in his own semi-final, and the result was not enough for the final through the time comparison.
– The uppermost feeling is, of course, a little disappointed. But there was a lot of good today. It’s sad, of course, Joensuu said in Viaplay’s TV interview and had to take a breath so he wouldn’t burst into tears.
Joensuu was asked which things were successful on Friday. Joensuu, who was choking back tears, listed the qualifying, quarter-final and final tiebreaker.
According to Joensuu’s assessment, the tie is in the best shape of his career.
Perhaps the most important individual competition of Joensuu’s career will come in February at the Milan–Cortina Olympics, where the sprint will also be held in the traditional way.
In an interview with Viaplay, Joensuu gave a tickling assessment of the Olympics, even though he did not mention the five-ring competition.
– Today I was able to prove to myself that everything is possible, Joensuu said on Viaplay.
