Japan considers strengthening of sanctions against Russia inevitable

It will be possible to talk about easing pressure when peace in the region becomes “obvious”, the Minister of Economy stressed. Tokyo has already introduced several packages of sanctions, including personal sanctions against individuals and companies, export restrictions

The Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry of Japan, Koichi Hagiuda, said on the air of the NHK TV channel that in the current situation there is only an option to increase sanctions pressure on Russia, transmits Bloomberg. According to Hagiuda, he intends to consider additional measures in cooperation with representatives of the international community.

It will be possible to ease restrictions against Russia when peace in the region “becomes obvious,” the minister stressed. At the same time, Hagiuda admitted that the sanctions have a negative impact on the Japanese economy.

Japan imposed sanctions against Shuvalov, Mordashov and Navka

Japan joined the Western sanctions after the end of February. On February 28, Tokyo imposed sanctions against the Russian Central Bank following the EU, the US and the UK, also withdrew the most favored nation trade regime, and banned the export of luxury goods to Russia, including precious stones, jewelry, and premium cars, from April 5. The export of oil refining equipment was also banned.

President Vladimir Putin, Deputy Head of the Security Council Dmitry Medvedev, Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov, Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu, Secretary of the Security Council Nikolai Patrushev, Chief of the General Staff Valery Gerasimov fell under personal sanctions. Also on the sanctions list were presidential representative Dmitry Peskov, head of Chechnya Ramzan Kadyrov, businessmen Boris Rotenberg, Alisher Usmanov, Yevgeny Prigozhin and others, Communist Party leader Gennady Zyuganov, First Deputy Chairman of the State Duma Ivan Melnikov.
