January edition of Munich Fabric Start canceled

The winter edition of the Munich Fabric Start trade fair planned for January 25th to 27th will also fall victim to the Covid 19 pandemic: “With the rapidly increasing number of infections of the Omikron variant in Europe – especially in our neighboring countries, which are already in lockdown – the initial situation is very complex in many respects, ”the trade fair company Munich Fabric Start explained in a statement on Tuesday. After “carefully weighing up the overall situation with an extremely serious situation in many places”, the decision was made to cancel the trade fair.

“As a trade fair organizer, in addition to the major economic risk, we also have a very far-reaching social responsibility,” explained Managing Director Sebastian Klinder in a statement. “The current developments are gradually taking the basis for our actions away from us: we currently have neither room for maneuver nor planning security, so we see no other option than to cancel the Munich Fabric Start with a heavy heart.”

According to the exhibition company, “over 600 suppliers from 33 countries had already registered for the Munich Fabric Start, including more than 90 international denim suppliers for the Bluezone”. This “enormous support from the industry” is “a milestone in this exceptional situation and anything but a matter of course”, according to a press release.

According to Munich Fabric Start, the Bluezone, which specializes in jeans manufacturers, will now take place as part of a new trade fair format together with the Keyhouse platform on May 3rd and 4th on the Munich Zenith site “as a pure denim and innovation show”. The organizers declared that “the appointment calendar for the denim industry will have a new, exciting concept and an expanded stand-alone trade fair format”.
