Jan Mark Oosterhuis of Storage and Transhipment Meppel is Port Entrepreneur of the Year 2021

Jan Mark Oosterhuis has just been named Port Entrepreneur of the Year 2021. The entrepreneur from Nijeveen who manages Storage and Transhipment Meppel succeeds Peter Korpershoek.

The Port Entrepreneur of the Year was announced during the annual Port Dinner Region Zwolle.

Jan Mark Oosterhuis was presented with the award by Annet Koster, director of the Royal Association of Dutch Shipowners (KVNR) and Koen Overtoom, CEO Port of Amsterdam.

Oosterhuis is co-owner of Op- en Overslag Meppel bv, which is located at the Sethehaven in Meppel. The company mainly specializes in the storage and transshipment of various road construction products and various waste materials.

The entrepreneur from Nijeveen is closely involved in a pilot to transport residual waste via inland shipping from Limburg to Drenthe, where it is recycled in a sustainable way. He also played a role in lobbying for the widening and deepening of the lock complex in the Afsluitdijk near Kornwerderzand.

He especially drew attention to the importance of deepening the Meppelerdiep for Meppel and the region. When the Meppelerdiep is excavated by 1.5 meters, heavier loaded ships can reach the port of Meppel again. Port of Zwolle will thus become more attractive for inland shipping and shortsea, and companies located in the region can once again benefit from this.

Jan Mark has made a positive contribution to the development of Port of Zwolle in recent years. The jury has therefore chosen this year to appoint Jan Mark Oosterhuis as Port Entrepreneur of the Year 2021.
