Jan-Lennard Struff replaces Alexander Zverev as German number one

Jan-Lennard Struff replaced Olympic champion Alexander Zverev before the French Open as German number one in the world tennis rankings.

The 33-year-old Warsteiner moved up two places to 26th place, Zverev slipped from 22nd to 27th place after his knockout round at the Masters 1000 tournament in Rome.

The 26-year-old was last listed this low in September 2016, and for the first time since August 2016 he will no longer be the highest-ranked German professional. For Struff, 26th place is a career best. Both Davis Cup players will be seeded on clay at the Grand Slam tournament in Paris, which begins on Sunday.

At the top of the men’s world rankings, Carlos Alcaraz from Spain replaced Serbian Novak Djokovic. Daniil Medvedev from Russia also pushed past Djokovic with his first tournament win on clay in Rome.

In the women’s world rankings, Tatjana Maria is the best-placed German player at position 64 ahead of Jule Niemeier as 72nd.
