Jan de Hoop, RTL’s most famous former newsreader, is really done with Beau van Erven Dorens and Humberto Tan. He criticizes their smear campaign against Renze Klamer. “Unprofessional.”

According to Jan de Hoop (71), it is downright ridiculous how Beau van Erven Dorens and Humberto Tan are busy slandering their direct colleague Renze Klamer in the media. There is also a good chance that Johan Derksen’s anonymous tipsters, who claim that Renze is secretly RTL’s Matthijs van Nieuwkerk, come from their circles.

Gossip and backbiting

Jan calls out TV critic Victor Vlam for giving Johan’s anonymous, therefore cowardly, sources a platform in his podcast. “I have often been Renze’s sidekick. The atmosphere was excellent,” he says X.

He continues: “I got to know him as an expert, a very good example and friendly to everyone, including the editors. It’s a pity that you are busy with gossip and backbiting.”

‘We don’t know’

What does Victor think about Jan addressing him? He responds: “Valid in itself, Jan. But Matthijs van Nieuwkerk was also nice to the guests. The point I also make in my podcast: we don’t know exactly what happened, but it is quite evident that Renze has enemies.”

Jan: “It doesn’t change the fact that you are now participating in gossip. I prefer to rely on verifiable facts and hear both sides of the story.”

Initiated

Nonsense, Victor thinks. “No, we both participate in this circus in the same way. We share what we know. Your experience with Renze does not detract from any negative experiences of others. This was all initiated by Beau and Humberto. That is where you should look for your complaints.”

Jan pinnig: “In the past, a journalist checked things before publication. There was a hearing and adversarial responses. Decent journalism did not come with gossip and backbiting.”

Criticism of Beau

Victor manages to get a newsworthy sneer out of Jan’s keyboard. “Do you condemn Beau and Humberto’s actions towards Renze?” he asks him.

Jan finally: “Yes. Not professional. You do that by drinking coffee together and talking things out.”
