Jan de Hoop will not appear on a talk show such as Op1 or Beau tonight, on the day of his emotional farewell to RTL Nieuws. The newsreader is not interested in that at all.
After no less than 33 years, Jan de Hoop said goodbye to the RTL Breakfast news this morning. He got quite emotional in his final minutes. “This is even worse than Toine van Peperstraten!”, he exclaimed at one point, to the hilarity of his colleagues and the viewers at home.
Not to Beau
Jan will leave it at that for the time being. He does not feel like looking back on all those years at RTL Nieuws in a talk show such as Op1 or Beau tonight. “At that moment I would rather sit with my husband in a restaurant than at a table at a talk show,” he explains in the AD†
How does he feel tonight at that dinner with his husband Coen? “I have no idea yet. Normally I am a cheerful, optimistic and pleasant person. But now I’m pretty confused. It’s such a mess in my head right now. All feelings clash.”
‘You do not look good!’
It is also his husband Coen who gave Jan the push to stop. “Yes. At one point, when I was broadcasting three days a week, Coen said: ‘Jan, you don’t look good. You seem dead tired for days! Stop. Please, stop.’ I knew it: he was right.”
He continues: “My husband just saw that I was getting sick of getting up early. However, this was a difficult decision to make definitively.”
