Jan de Hoop was very curious about Theo Maassen’s debut as a presenter of Zomergasten, but he is very disappointed. “This idiotic set defies all TV laws in my opinion.”

It’s over: Theo Maassen’s debut as a presenter of Zomergasten. His premiere managed to attract a large audience last night, because almost half a million tuned in to his interview with some cosmologist. Yet people are critical of the lighting and the restless decor, which keeps changing color.

‘Defy all TV laws’

Jan de Hoop, the legendary RTL Breakfast News star who is still missed by the viewer, finds it hard to see. “I tried it because I find the subject fascinating. I also have a high regard for Theo. But it’s too complicated and because of the light and the strange camera angles and shots and I can’t get into the crazy decor.”

According to Jan, the decor, lighting and camera work really distract too much from the content, and that bothers him. “It defies all TV laws in my opinion.”

‘be a nag’

Raymond Mens, the America connoisseur of Today Inside, agrees with Jan. “I will be a nag again, but the decor of Zomergasten is very distracting. Why not just a wooden table in a black studio? Was successful for Charlie Rose for years, because partly because of this, the conversation in his show was always central.”

Poet Nico Dijkshoorn teases Raymond and emphasizes two words in his argument: “’Was’ ‘Stood’.”

‘It distracts’

Former parliamentary chairman Frans Weisglas also finds it impossible. “Dear editors of Zomergasten, you still have two and a half hours and five evenings to let your viewers watch your beautiful program without that distracting flashing and jumping light.”

Flikken actor Victor Reinier is enthusiastic. “Summer guests with cosmologist/physicist Thomas Hertog was in one word: phenomenal. What an incredibly smart and fun man who took me on an understandable journey through the incomprehensible. Also very cleverly directed by Theo Maassen. This is promising.”
