“Jamel rockt den Förster” festival celebrates its anniversary

The “Jamel rockt den Förster” festival, which takes place this year on August 12th and 13th at Birgit and Horst Lohmeyer’s Jameler Forsthof, is a special edition. It is taking place for the 15th time to stand up against right-wing radicalism.

The couple have lived in the village of Jamel for 18 years, and since then more than 50 crimes have been committed against them in the immediate vicinity of the village in order to drive them away. The “Jamel rockt den Förster” festival, launched in 2007 by the two Lohmeyers, wants to draw attention from year to year to how the neo-Nazi scene is taking over entire regions – and above all, how something can be done about it .

From Toten Hosen to Beatsteaks: Many prominent supporters

The Lohmeyers have received several awards for their commitment to civil society. “With our non-commercial, volunteer-organized festival, we want to show how you can speak out for democracy and against right-wing extremism and populism – in a relaxed and non-violent way,” says Horst Lohmeyer. The festival has achieved national fame through prominent appearances by major acts (including Die Toten Hosen, Die Ärzte, Fettes Brot, Madsen, Kraftklub, Casper & Marteria, Donots, Beatsteaks, Max Herre, Herbert Grönemeyer and Thees Uhlmann). More visitors are expected this year as the organizers have expanded the festival to 3500 people.

Like every year, the line-up is a surprise. “As usual, we keep secret who will perform until the bands are on stage,” explains Birgit Lohmeyer. “In addition, there will again be many information stands, workshops, a film and, for the first time, a cabaret stage for performances by local artists in the supporting program.”
