Jambon (N-VA) criticizes style of Mahdi (CD&V): “We must govern now, not lead election campaigns” | Interior

Flemish Prime Minister Jan Jambon (N-VA) criticizes the approach of CD&V chairman Sammy Mahdi. According to Jambon, the Flemish government should now mainly continue to govern and not lead election campaigns. He says this in conversation with VTM News.

After the summer, Jambon will start the last year of this Flemish government as Prime Minister, with difficult dossiers such as childcare. CD&V chairman Mahdi demands a doubling from 1 to 2 billion to tackle the childcare file. “Mahdi has already said something like this a number of times,” Jambon responds. According to the Prime Minister, money does not solve everything. “The quality must also be improved and more places must be created,” it sounds.

The CD&V chairman tries to block Jambon. If there is no more money, according to Mahdi, Jambon will have “a major problem”. But the Prime Minister says he does not feel put in a position. Jambon criticizes that Mahdi has already used this style a few times.

“We are not in election mode,” Jambon responds. “We sit around the table with three parties. Will more money be needed? Probably. But in contrast to more expenditure on the one hand, there are savings on the other.”

Will Jambon stop as Prime Minister after elections?

When asked if Jambon will stop as prime minister after the 2024 elections, he replies: “I have already answered that question. I really like this job and with great enthusiasm. My motivation is to realize the wonderful program of N-VA.”

“It is up to the voter to decide and then we can see who is put on which post. I am now governing and much less concerned with election campaigns,” it reads. Finally, Jambon makes it clear that he remains available to realize the N-VA program.
