Jamai Loman and Wendy van Dijk fail: ‘The transmitter management blunders’

Jamai Loman and Wendy van Dijk do not exactly end the year well. They both achieved low viewing figures yesterday and according to Tina Nijkamp this is partly due to the channel management.

Maarten van Rossem and Philip Freriks make it quite difficult for the competition with their viewing hit De Slimste Mens. They scored no less than 2.1 million viewers on NPO 1 last night, accounting for 41 percent of all people who watched television at half past eight. For example, there is of course little left for the major competitors RTL 4 and SBS 6 to distribute.

Jamie and Wendy

The two commercial channels were therefore quite disappointing. Jamai Loman did not reach more than 528 thousand viewers (11 percent) on RTL 4 with the Lego Masters Christmas special, and Wendy van Dijk got stuck with her De Grote Gezondheidsquiz at 483 thousand viewers (10 percent) on SBS 6.

Both titles did not attract enough attention for a spot in the top 15 viewing figure, which is below average, according to viewing figure expert Tina Nijkamp. Still, she thinks that this is not only Jamai and Wendy’s fault. The former channel boss of SBS 6 points to programming blunders of the current channel bosses.

Television blunder

What goes wrong in Jamai’s case? “It is very late to come up with a Christmas special on December 28. Everyone is already baking oil balls. Why wasn’t this on the site of Isola di Beau on Christmas Day? And then Isola di Beau, for example, could have been broadcast yesterday.” she writes.

Isola di Beau showed a crying Bridget Maasland on Christmas Day: no success. “One thing is certain: Next year there will be no Christmas special ordered from Lego Masters. I suspect that we will not see the program on TV until 2024 or 2025 anyway. And then completely different and again with large assignments (making whole worlds).”

Way too early

What about Wendy? What programming blunder is she the victim of? “You can ask yourself whether this program was programmed too early. New Year’s resolutions will only take effect from 1 January, at the moment everyone is not yet involved in this and it may still feel a bit too pedantic.”

The only other prime time title with a spot in the top 25 viewing figure was NPO 1’s Journaal Jaaroverzicht 2022 with 997 thousand viewers (23 percent).
