Jakobsen wins Kuurne-Brussels-Kuurne after mass sprint

For a long time it looked as if this edition of Kuurne-Brussels-Kuurne would not end in a bunch sprint as expected. But in the last kilometer the chasing peloton chewed up the escapees. In the final sprint, Jakobsen took the win, ahead of Ewan. Frenchman Hugo Hofstetter completed the top three. The 25-year-old Jakobsen succeeds the Dane Mads Pedersen on the honors list, who did not appear at the start this edition. The last Belgian winner was Jasper Stuyven in 2016.

Kuurne-Brussels-Kuurne formed the second part of the Belgian opening weekend of the cycling season, after Saturday’s Omloop Het Nieuwsblad. Top favorite Wout van Aert immediately disbanded his devils and captured the victory.
