Jahn-Elf remains merciless: Regensburg is leading the way in the fight for promotion

As of: October 14, 2023 4:03 p.m

SSV Jahn Regensburg remains the team of the moment in the 3rd football league. After three successes in the English week, the next win follows against Lübeck. The Regensburg team didn’t let the rain or a sending-off stop them.

The outside conditions in Regensburg actually favored the outsider. After all, it was raining heavily in the capital of the Upper Palatinate on Saturday afternoon – which often speaks for the playful outsider. But SSV Jahn didn’t let that deter them and ultimately won a well-deserved 2:1 (2:0) against the newly promoted team.

Jahn Regensburg temporarily leads the league

This means that the Regensburg team also moved ahead in the promotion battle and jumped to first place in the table, at least temporarily. On Sunday, the former frontrunner and current runner-up Dynamo Dresden will play against the current third team SSV 1846 Ulm, but then the standings could change again.

Dominik Kother (41st minute) was successful for Regensburg in the first half on Saturday afternoon after winning the ball in the opponent’s penalty area and Oscar Schönfelder (45th + 3 with a follow-up shot after Ganaus’s finish). Robin Velasco then scored the connecting goal 25 seconds after the restart.

Regensburg missed out on deciding the game

As a result, Regensburg failed to decide the game despite several good opportunities – including an indirect free kick in the six-yard box. Instead, it was another close game in which both teams were sent off (Louis Breunig, Jahn, yellow-red card after carrying the ball away in the 71st, Leon Sommer, VfB, emergency brake in the 79th).
