The Chicago Bulls have secured the services of Detroit Pistons guard Jaden Ivey. The deal is part of a three-team trade with the Minnesota Timberwolves.
Shams Charania (ESPN) reported on it on Tuesday. In addition to Ivey, Mike Conley Jr. (point guard) from Minnesota is also moving to the Bulls in Illinois. The Pistons welcome Kevin Huerter (shooting guard) and Dario Saric (power forward) on board. Detroit also receives a protected pick swap from the T-Wolves for the first round of the 2026 draft.
All three teams cover their needs with the trade. With Huerter, the Pistons get an accurate shooter from distance, the Bulls have added both a young and experienced player to their own ranks and Minnesota remains without a new addition, but benefits financially from Conley’s departure.
As a result of the trade, the Timberwolves will slip below the first apron of the salary cap. This significantly reduces their luxury tax burden – from $24 million previously to $3.8 million, according to insider Bobby Marks (ESPN).
The newly created financial leeway could play an important role in the coming days, as Minnesota continues to pursue superstar Giannis Antetokounmpo from the Milwaukee Bucks until the trade deadline on February 5th, writes ESPN.
