Jacobs new technical director relegated Willem II

Willem II has appointed a new technical director in Teun Jacobs. The 38-year-old Jacobs succeeds Joris Mathijsen, who was placed on non-active status at the beginning of March. Willem II was relegated to the Kitchen Champion Division on Sunday during the last round of the Eredivisie.

Jacobs, who until recently was technical manager at Almere City FC, signed a two-year contract in Tilburg. “Of course, like everyone here, I would have preferred that the club had stayed in it, but unfortunately that is not the reality. Given the status of the club, returning to the Eredivisie is a logical ambition,” said Jacobs, who also worked in the youth academy of the club. NEC and the KNVB.

Willem II decided at the beginning of March to fire head coach Fred Grim and to put technical director Mathijsen on non-active status. A few weeks later, the former international of Orange was fired.

Under the leadership of trainer Kevin Hofland, Willem II failed to maintain his position in the Eredivisie. The Tilburgers did win 3-0 against FC Utrecht on the final day, but because the competitors Fortuna Sittard and Sparta Rotterdam also won, Willem II disappears from the highest division after eight years.
