Jack Nicholson: Oscar winner prefers reading to acting

In a podcast, producer Lou Adler explains why Jack Nicholson no longer accepts roles.

With films like One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest, It Couldn’t Get Better or The Shining, Jack Nicholson became a film icon, winning three Oscars. But the 86-year-old’s last film was 12 years ago. Whether Nicholson’s time out is final has so far only been surmised.

Now his long-time friend and colleague, producer Lou Adler, has spoken on the podcast “,WTF with Marc Maron“News reported. The music and film producer explains that Nicholson still turns down film roles in favor of other activities.

“He wants to eat whatever he wants”

His friend Adler goes on to say that Nicholson would rather be quiet and to himself. ”He wants to eat whatever he wants. He wants to live the life he wants.” Nevertheless, the two friends have been attending Los Angeles Lakers games together for years.

In response to a recent request for a role from a director, Nicholson is said to have replied: “I don’t want to do it. Do you know what I did today? I sat under a tree and read a book.”

“That sounds like Jack!” confirms Lou Adler with a laugh.
