Jack (11) and Troy (10) compete for NK Lego trophy in Purmerend

In the Markthal in Purmerend there will be a battle in the coming days for the big goblet, of course made from Lego blocks, a year of free Lego blocks and a trip to Legoland in Denmark. Eleven-year-old Jack Beudeker from Zaandam and his ten-year-old boyfriend Troy Nuland from Anna Pawlowna are participating and would love to become Dutch champions.

Six duos have been chosen from hundreds of children who participate in the National Championships, in which children between the ages of seven and eleven can participate. Jack and Troy met on a holiday in Portugal. It soon became apparent that they share the same passion. “My room is completely full of Lego,” says Troy, “when I was three my grandfather gave me Lego bricks and I was hooked right away.” So does Jack, who stumbles over the Lego in his room.

Both lego fanatics made a beautiful helicopter this morning at the Dutch National Championships, which unfortunately did not win any prizes. They now hope for the main prize in the execution of the second assignment. “We don’t know what to make, we won’t know until later. If we win, we will go to the final,” says Jack.

They like to participate and of course they would like to go to Legoland because they have not been there yet. But just like with the Olympic Games, participating is more important than winning. And they can never get enough of Lego. “I think,” says Troy, “in two years I’ll need a much bigger room for all my Legos. Otherwise I won’t be able to get into my bed.”

The final of the NK Lego for children is next Monday.
