Mats Hummels seems to have arrived in Rome. He has received a lot of praise for his recent performance in the league.

AS Roma won for the first time under new coach Claudio Ranieri – and Mats Hummels received a lot of praise in Italy. The world champion, who only played once under Ranieri’s predecessor Ivan Juric, won with his team 4-1 (1-1) against US Lecce on Saturday evening and helped secure Ranieri’s first win in his fourth game on the sidelines secure.

The newspaper “Il Messaggero” praised him as “Professor Hummels,” who “gave AS Roma wings.” It continued: “Hummels deserves a long round of applause for his style and for the way he stops opponents, with the aplomb of a great champion. The question is: Why didn’t Juric use him?”

Other media also joined in the praise. The “Gazzetta dello Sport” spoke of a “mystery” as to why a player of his stature had been used so little so far. “Corriere dello Sport” described his performance as “monumental” and emphasized that Hummels had established himself as a leader in the Giallorossi.

Coach Claudio Ranieri was also satisfied: “Our performance was great, exactly what I wanted. We had to show the will to fight for every ball – that’s what we did.” It was a special evening for Ranieri as it was his 100th game as AS Roma coach. The experienced coach, who has already looked after the club in two previous terms, celebrated an important milestone.
