The Italian Serie A has set a worrying negative financial record: the total debts of the first division teams are approaching the five billion euro mark.

The debts of the Italian first division clubs have reached a new high and now total 4.86 billion euros. As the sports newspaper “Gazzetta dello Sport” reports, the debt of the Serie A clubs has increased by almost 200 million euros compared to the previous year – at that time it was still 4.67 billion euros.

Como 1907 is particularly deep in the red. The Lombard club has a deficit of 105.1 million euros. Record champions Juventus Turin (58.1 million euros) and AS Roma (53.9 million euros) also have a significant impact on the overall balance.

Of the 20 Serie A clubs, a total of 13 clubs reported losses. Teams like Atalanta Bergamo and Inter Milan are bucking this negative trend. Atalanta made a profit of 37.9 million euros, while Inter recorded a surplus of 35.4 million euros.

The clubs’ turnover rose slightly to 3.19 billion euros – an increase of 55 million euros compared to the previous season. At the same time, spending on player salaries increased slightly. These now stand at 1.99 billion euros.
