Reggiani, Mane and Inacio play at Borussia Dortmund, Chiarodia at Monchengladbach: while we discuss how to valorise talent, they taste the Bundesliga, overcome difficulties, show what they can do, they have been cornerstones of the Italian Under and now that Baldini has called them…

Italy’s future is being built by a boy whose career was cut short by a terrible injury. Three of the players called up by coach Silvio Baldini are Borussia Dortmund youngsters: Filippo Mane and Luca Reggiani in defence, as well as Samuele Inacio in attack. Joining them from the Bundesliga is Fabio Chiarodia (Borussia Moenchengladbach), but it is no coincidence that so many top-level Italians play in Dortmund. The credit goes to Dario Scuderi, 28 years old, considered in the past one of the greatest Italian talents who, however, a few weeks after becoming an adult (it was 2016) suffered a very serious injury: during the Youth League match between his Borussia Dortmund and Legia Warsaw, his knee twisted. Literally. “It’s difficult to imagine a more serious injury,” said the yellow and blacks’ doctor. Dario had broken his cruciate, meniscus and ligaments. The knee was shattered, the blood was no longer circulating. “I arrived at the hospital and they told me that they would have to amputate my leg – Dario told the Gazzetta –. I saw my parents crying, and I told them that I would go back to playing football.” He tried, he didn’t succeed. But now he works as an observer for the Gialloneri and has recommended signing Filippo Mane, Luca Reggiani and Samuele Inacio. Now they are all Italian nationals.
