Italy in the Davis Cup semifinals

Italy won their quarter-finals against the USA at the Davis Cup finals in Malaga and are the possible opponents of the German team in the semi-finals.

Fabio Fognini/Simone Bolelli secured the decisive point for the 2:1 success with a 6:4, 6:4 in the final doubles match against Tommy Paul/Jack Sock. Italy is playing for the final for the first time since 2014.

Previously it had been 1:1 after the individual. The Italians, who compete in Spain without their top players Matteo Berrettini and Jannik Sinner, took the lead with a 6: 3, 7: 6 (9: 7) by Lorenzo Sonego against US Open semi-finalist Frances Tiafoe. Taylor Fritz equalized with the 7:6 (10:8), 6:3 against Lorenzo Musetti.

The German team will take on the strong Canadians from the afternoon without top player Alexander Zverev. Before Italy, Croatia and Australia had already reached the semi-finals of the traditional team competition.
