At the 109th Giro d’Italia, Italian professional cyclist Alberto Bettiol won the 13th stage. The 32-year-old, who won the Tour of Flanders in 2019, celebrated his second victory in the Tour of Italy after a solo ride in Verbania on Lake Maggiore in the north of the country. He was successful once in 2021.
The Norwegian Andreas Leknessund came second on the day after 189 kilometers from Alessandria, the Belgian Jasper Stuyven third. No German made it into the top ten drivers.
Portuguese further ahead of Vingegaard
The top drivers in the race for the overall ranking took it easy – and finished well behind the leading group. Afonso Eulálio is still at the top. The Portuguese leads the rankings ahead of the two-time Danish Tour de France champion Jonas Vingegaard with a gap of just over 30 seconds.
There could be a shift in the overall standings on Saturday. After relatively flatter days, things are getting busy for the professionals: on the 14th stage, the first mountain stage in the Alps awaits with a mountain finish. Between Aosta and Pila there are three climbs in the first category and one each in the second and third categories. The tour ends on May 31st in Rome.
