An Italian motorcyclist, Andrea Perfetti, a moto.it journalist registered in the Africa Eco Race, was involved in a serious accident today during the seventh special stage of the race, currently taking place in Mauritania. Perfetti was filling up with fuel behind an organization truck used to refuel the drivers’ vehicles when the truck was hit by Jean Louis Schlesser’s light aircraft (also linked to the race) during take-off. which suddenly skidded. The Italian pilot was also involved in the accident: he was immediately rescued and transported to the military hospital in Nouakchot by helicopter. According to initial information, Perfetti, who suffered multiple fractures, always remained conscious after the collision. The rescue efforts were also facilitated by the fact that the doctors were already at the point of the accident and the pilot was therefore immediately taken care of by the medics. The stage was neutralized.
