“It was visible again…”

After the drop in performance against 1. FC Köln, Borussia Dortmund is looking for the right answers. BVB trainer Edin Terzic was served after the bankruptcy at the Rhinelanders.

Borussia Dortmund still had everything under control in the first half and deservedly took a 1-0 lead through Julian Brandt’s goal (31st). After the change of sides, however, BVB lost the thread. 1. FC Köln exploited this mercilessly and turned the game around thanks to goals from Florian Kainz (53′), Steffen Tigges (56′) and Dejan Ljubicic (71′). The Dortmund connection in the 78th minute came too late.

“We played really well in the first half and were able to create a lot of chances to score. We then only led 1-0 and had the chance to go even higher. We didn’t allow much, we were well organized and disciplined “, said BVB coach Edin Terzic after the defeat at “Sky”.

But after the change of sides came the Dortmund performance slump. “Then during the half-time break we say that it will be extremely important how we start the second half. Then it happens that we concede the first corner after what feels like eight seconds because we’re not clean on the ball,” said Terzic and stated: “If you see how we fought duels in the first 15-20 minutes of the second half, we shouldn’t be surprised that we conceded two goals. Only then did we start playing football again. Then it was already too late.”

BVB coach Terzic has no doubts about mentality

The BVB coach has no doubts about the mentality of his players. “We know what we can do and what we still have to learn. It was once again visible what has been lacking for years to knock on the door. We will work on that,” assured Terzic.

The 39-year-old was already looking at the upcoming premier class duel at FC Sevilla. “We have our next task in the Champions League on Wednesday,” said Terzic: “We’ve only got three points after two games in the Champions League too. We absolutely have to get something in Seville, we’ll give everything. After that, the next tasks await . We know how exhausting it will be before the World Cup. We have to prepare for that.”

With a win against the Spaniards, BVB could also gain the necessary self-confidence for the Bundesliga top game against FC Bayern (October 8) and shoot the frustration from the recent bankruptcy from the soul.
