‘It is a misunderstanding that vv Hoogeveen is a purchasing club’

This football season, RTV Drenthe will present the Onze Club Podcast every Tuesday afternoon. An audio show about amateur football in Drenthe and the TV program of the same name from the provincial broadcaster.

Podcast makers Stijn Steenhuis and Tom Meijers receive Menno Heerkes, the 30-year-old playmaker of vv Hoogeveen, this week. The former teammate of Hakim Ziyech, Wout Weghorst and Robin Gosens was a professional football player, but is now very happy in the midfield of the third division team.

“The feeling you have when you realize that you just won’t make it eventually fades away. That is difficult in the beginning, but it becomes less and less,” says Heerkes in the Onze Club Podcast. At Hoogeveen he plays together with his brother Tom and that is special: “He is also my best friend, so that is also the reason why I ultimately chose this club. It is fantastic to play together now.”

He did not move to Drenthe for the money: “No, you don’t have to come to us for the money. The fact that Hoogeveen is a buying club is also a misunderstanding.”

Host Stijn Steenhuis elaborates on football-playing brothers in Drenthe and has asked the Onze Club Podcast app group for help. After his phone exploded, he started making a list. ‘Killer couple’ Camiel and Jos Fidom, Mathijs and Frans Capellen from Zuidwolde, Danny and Roy Feiken, MSC members Rense and Max van Dijk, twins Marnix and Xander Jager and that’s not all. In short, there are a lot of interesting couples in the province.

Sidekick and Valthermond defender Tom Meijers received a point and a yellow talking card in Norg this weekend. In this edition of the Our Club Podcast he talks about cheering, because he saw some beautiful ones celebrations. For example, VV Nieuw Buinen star Eron Albers is apparently still walking across the Buunerdrome with his finger in front of his mouth and standout Sjoert Giezen from VV Veenhuizen is probably looking forward to Friday when the Darts World Cup starts. “That was the best for me as a darts fan celebration this weekend.”
