24-year-old Swedish Emil Flodin has become a “back runner” in running circles.
To Mitti magazine In an interview with Flodin, he said that he is almost always backwards almost always backwards and is happy to do it spectacularly in practice and in competitions.
– It’s not strange than putting your feet behind another, instead of putting a step in front of the other. Then you gently tilt backwards. I try to keep my gaze forward, but I look at about every tenth second, Flodin describes to the magazine.
Flodin met the magazine’s journalist on the popular Råstasjön running trail in Stockholm, which is popular among runners. Soon, however, some of them may find that they will have to stay behind a 24-year-old runner.
– This works really well for me. My knees thank you for stepping almost exclusively with the tips of the foot. In the past, I had heel problems, but the backward run has helped a lot, he says.
Flodin first tried the backward run in 2022 and deliberately did it in Lidl’s sandals.
– People found it really funny and encouraged me. I got up to two medals in the finish, Flodin recalls.
This year, he has run three times from the Stockholm Marathon. He was the last marathon in your live rime in Tiktok and YouTube, which attracted widespread attention.
His personal record was born in August at Ultravasan: 92 kilometers back from Sälen to Mora in nearly 15 hours.
– I fell there once because the route was muddy and slippery. I even lost my slipper, he reveals to the magazine.
Flodin says that the most common question from other runners is whether he only runs temporarily or is there any injury.
“The second most common question is” why? “,” He laughs.
– At first, I ran back only for my own pleasure and to stand out. Everyone is running forward and I go backwards. Now my goal is also to inspire people to move around and show that running can be fun, he says.
