GAZA (dpa-AFX) – Israel’s army says it has arrested dozens of terrorists around the Kamal Aduan hospital in the north of the Gaza Strip. The military released footage Thursday showing armed Palestinian men leaving the hospital with their hands raised. Photos and videos showed several bare-chested men holding weapons over their heads and then putting them and their equipment down.
Israeli troops, in collaboration with the domestic intelligence service Shin Bet, had previously located a building near the hospital used by Hamas terrorists in recent days, it said in a statement. The military also found weapons during the operation.
The total of around 70 men surrendered and were handed over to an army intelligence unit and the Israeli security authority after the arrests, it said. The army information cannot currently be independently verified.
The images distributed by the army were reminiscent of footage from last week that showed Palestinians in their underpants arrested in the Gaza Strip. The images caused outrage at the time. According to Israeli military experts, among other things, it should be ruled out that there are suicide bombers with explosive belts among those arrested./rme/DP/mis
