ISPO Awards 2024: These are the award winners

The ISPO Awards expert jury has once again honored groundbreaking sports products, including clothing, shoes, equipment and more. Below is a selection of the most innovative products.

Lifestyle/athleisure

Anta Heat Stream Down Jacket 3.0

The Heat Stream Down Jacket 3.0 from Chinese sports provider Anta consists of a three-layer fabric composition, with the outer and inner layers made of 100 percent carbon-bonded polyester yarn. It was created for the extreme cold with temperatures down to minus 40°C and is also treated with bio-based water-repellent and flame-retardant agents that are free of PFOA and PFOS and can withstand many washes. This ensures protection from rain and prevents burns from sparks from outdoor campfires.

Tanboer Airbag Recycled N66 Down Jacket

The Chinese outdoor brand Tanboer uses several recycled materials for this jacket, including recycled down and an outer fabric made from recycled airbag fabric. The jacket is also waterproof, breathable and abrasion-resistant.

“It’s great that Tanboer is putting the material from used airbags back into circulation and has found a practical solution that even brings cost advantages. Recycling old down also makes sense because it is far too good to throw away,” says the jury statement.

The item is scheduled to hit the market in March 2025.

Biodegradable Templa jacket

The Templa Jacket is a collaboration between luxury outdoor brand Templa, ethically sourced high-performance recycled down provider Allied Feather + Down and performance wear manufacturer Active Apparel. Together, the companies developed a jacket that completely biodegrades in about five years.

The jacket features 800-fill power down insulation combined with synthetic fabrics and trims from Active Apparel Group and fashion-forward silhouettes from Templa.

“It is a great honor for us to accept the ISPO Award for Future Now: Designing to Disappear – The Biodegradable Project. For us, this project is more than just an interesting silhouette or a new technology; it’s about responsible decisions for meaningful change. And we are grateful that our efforts, along with AAG and Allied Feather + Down, have been recognized by our industry leaders, reinforcing our belief in the power of collaboration for the greater good,” comments Anati Rakocz, Founding Partner at Templa.

Icebreaker MerinoVent 3L Waterproof Peak Hooded Jacket

The MerinoVent 3L Waterproof Peak Hooded jacket features a waterproof outer layer made from 96.8 percent mineral oil-free fabric with Merino wool, “pushing the boundaries of natural materials in a technical 3L jacket,” according to the description.

On the path to becoming plastic-free, Icebreaker wanted to “develop a highly functional, waterproof, breathable and windproof fabric that relies as little as possible on the use of fossil raw materials, thereby showing that there is a better way to use outdoor materials “without any loss of performance.”

The item will be available from August 2025.

Janus Wool AirWool Base 260 Zipneck

The AirWool Base 260 Zipneck from Norwegian Merino specialist Janus Wool consists of a soft base layer made of 100 percent merino wool. The innovative roughened interior provides additional comfort and even better insulation.

“It’s great to see that innovation is still possible with natural fibers, especially in the production of fabrics and without the need to incorporate synthetic fibers. The base layer feels sensationally soft and the high collar, the raglan sleeves and the special hem construction make the garment something very special,” said the jury.

Gorewear Concurve Windstopper

The Gorewear Concurve Windstopper, an insulated hooded jacket that combines PrimaLoft Active Evolve insulation with the wind protection of the PFC-free ePE Windstopper Liner by Gore-Tex technology, also received an award.

Despite the air-permeable outer material, the jacket is wind- and water-repellent and ensures adapted thermoregulation that adapts to the speed: the faster runners go, the better the buffered air circulates in the insulation to minimize the risk of overheating .

“The jacket is a top choice for cold-weather runs: it offers insulation and wind protection with low weight, minimal bulk and unrestricted freedom of movement. A big additional plus is the careful handling of the materials,” said the jury, explaining their choice.

The item will be available from September 2025.

In the snow sports sector, sporting goods manufacturer Adidas was able to score points – it was recognized with awards, including for the Terrex Xperior Hybrid Primeknit Climaproof+ jacket and trousers.

They’re made from Primeknit material for greater flexibility in a waterproof shell. With a water column of 20,000 mm and breathability of 10,000, they keep wearers dry in every situation.

“Stretchy where it counts, waterproof overall: the sophisticated material mix makes this jacket both an eye-catcher and a reliable yet comfortable performance piece. “A freeride must-have, also because of the clever snow-specific details, the great freedom of movement and the attractive price-performance ratio,” said the jury.

The items will be available in stores from September 2025.

Patagonia PowSlayer Jacket

The Patagonia PowSlayer Jacket was designed for skiers and snowboarders who demand ultimate weather protection and functionality in the mountains. As part of the PowSlayer Big Mountain Freeride Kit, it combines innovative performance with responsible manufacturing and offers waterproof, windproof and breathable protection.

“In addition to sustainable materials, there are many intelligent and hidden details in this jacket. The stretch inserts on the sides of the hood are particularly clever and innovative. This means you can easily pull the hood over a helmet in stormy conditions without having to open the zipper on the collar. Anyone who has ever stood on a summit in a snowstorm with force 6 winds will love this feature,” commented the jury.

X-Bionic HeatLoop Baselayer Long Sleeve

The Swiss premium sportswear brand X-Bionic was recognized for its innovative approach to thermoregulation with the HeatLoop Baselayer Long Sleeve. This is a long-sleeved shirt whose heat-storing properties were copied from nature: the heart is a knitting technology made of hydrophilic and hydrophobic fibers that wicks moisture to the outside.

In addition, insulating heat loops follow the same principle as down feathers and store body heat and keep the core body temperature at 37 degrees. In addition, integrated air channels compensate for the thermal imbalance by transporting heat to cooler parts of the body through convection and ensure sufficient ventilation.

“X-Bionic’s patent-pending HeatLoop technology sets a new standard for thermoregulation in baselayers. The combination of hydrophobic and hydrophilic yarn improves sweat management and insulation,” says the jury statement.

The item will be available from September 2025.

Swöm intelligent lifeguard clothing

Danish brand Swöm makes smart, life-saving swimwear for children aged three to twelve that inflates in an emergency. It uses sensors to monitor water depth and duration. The system only activates when a child is underwater too deep and for too long, inflating to provide life-saving buoyancy.

“Water security is a sensitive issue. However, Swöm has managed to bring a unique and innovative product onto the market that works reliably. In addition to safety, it also takes comfort into account and meets the current demand for effective UV protection,” the jury found.

The items will come onto the market from April 2025.
