Iserlohn gets “Big Point” in the relegation battle

The Iserlohn Roosters have landed a valuable victory in the relegation battle of the German Ice Hockey League (DEL).

The Sauerlanders beat the third-placed Straubing Tigers 4:3 (1:0, 2:0, 0:3, 0:0, 1:0) after a penalty shootout and are now five points ahead of bottom team Augsburg. However, the Panthers have played two fewer games.

In their 48th of 52 main round games, Michael Dal Colle (12th), Taro Jentzsch (23rd) and Balazs Sebök (33rd) brought the Roosters up 3-0. But Michael Clarke (45th), Justin Scott (53rd) and Justin Braun (60th) forced extra time in the third period. Tyler Boland scored the Roosters’ extra point in the shootout.

Due to the defeat, the Tigers missed the chance to come one step closer to direct qualification for the play-off quarter-finals. Lower Bavaria definitely has a place in the pre-play-offs.
