Iserbyt third in Maasmechelen
No new win for Eli Iserbyt. On a brand new course, it was the first time that the Cyclo-cross World Cup came to Maasmechelen, Iserbyt came in third. The West Flemish had some bad luck after a crash halfway through and did not recover from that. Iserbyt remains the leader in the World Cup.
Afterwards, Iserbyt was dissatisfied with the course: ‘You can offer this course in, say, the Exact Crossen, but not at the World Cup. You really can’t drive on this, grip is almost non-existent.’
‘This was just ridiculous… I’m thinking of not coming back to Maasmechelen next year. Almost everyone had a flat tire here, then you already know enough’, the West Flemish concluded his speech.
Revenge for Sweeck
The winner of the day was Laurens Sweeck, who was frustrated yesterday by Iserbyt’s lack of head work. Today there was no cause for frustration. In Maasmechelen, Sweeck recorded his first victory of the season. The Dutchman Lars Van der Haar, who had to deal with bad luck in Ruddervoorde, came in second.
