Darts superstar Michael van Gerwen has been looking for his top form of past days for months. The former tour dominator has been lost, even the qualification for the final tournament of the Premier League is in great danger before the last matchday on Thursday. Ex-professional Colin Lloyd has an exciting suspicion.

“I think his best time is over,” says the Englishman in the “Talkbull” podcast: “With what he has achieved in the game, he is still so motivated? He says he is. He says that there is still a lot in him and that he is still the man to beat in his normal form and is one of the best players in the world.”

Finally, however, the Dutch remained guilty of this regularly. In addition to Rob Cross, Michael van Gerwen is the only player who has not been able to win an evening in the Premier League Darts in the previous course of the season. His last chance for this offers itself on Thursday in Sheffield. There the 36-year-old fights to move into the final of the top four players in London a week later.

Darts: Does Michael van Gerwen have “other priorities”?

And also on the tour, the three -time world champion was not too round. At Easter, “Mighty Mike” won his 38th title on the European Tour, with which he further expanded his record. Before and after, the darts superstar, who was also plagued by shoulder problems in between, did not achieve too much.

“He loves to spend time with his wife and go on vacation with the children,” Lloyd begins his explanation, why Van Gerwen no longer played so successfully: “He may have got into his head that he has different priorities. The last spark in his game has not jumped recently.”

The 51-year-old, who met a total of 19 times on van Gerwen in his career, even thinks an early career end of the number three of the darts world rankings.
