It would not surprise Tina Nijkamp if Guido Weijers’ new New Year’s Eve conference does not appear on television. “It is very difficult to earn back the money for a commercial TV channel.”
After years of absence, Guido Weijers will make another New Year’s Eve conference next year, in 2026. It is not yet clear whether the performance will be shown on television, and that is remarkable, because he recently said on television: “I really think it is a privilege, but RTL says: ‘As soon as you start doing it, we would like to broadcast it.’”
‘Costs tons!’
Apparently that is not so certain yet and TV authority Tina Nijkamp understands that. “Whether that will be the case is not yet certain. I also don’t know whether RTL or SBS still want that. Maybe Videoland, for example, wants it. That could be the case. But it is a very expensive affair for a channel to purchase such a New Year’s Eve conference.”
She knows this because she was the channel boss of SBS 6. “I know that from experience, yes, because I broadcast that conference by Guido Weijers in my time, and then you really have to think of a sum of hundreds of thousands,” she continues in Tina’s TV Update.
Not popular
Hundreds of thousands of euros for an hour and a half of television? That is indeed not cat pee. “The question is whether you want to play that out in one evening, on December 31. The money is very difficult to earn back for a commercial TV channel, because December 31 is actually not a very popular date for advertisers to open up airtime.”
Why? “Because everything is just over. The Christmas presents, the Sinterklaas presents, all the campaigns are ready. I’m curious whether it will be broadcast.”
