“Shouldn’t have counted”
Irregular BVB goal? DFB admits errors

The BVB played a two-goal lead. Now it becomes clear that one of the two goals shouldn’t have counted at all.
The discussions about Borussia Dortmund’s second goal against Werder Bremen (2-2) do not tear off. As Alex Feuerherd, spokesman for DFB Schiri GmbH, explained in the Pay TV station Sky, the video assistant (VAR) should have intervened in the situation because there was a criminal offside position.
The controversial goal fell in the 51st minute after a free kick from Pascal. BVB striker Serhou Guirassy took the ball volley, while Ramy Bensebaini, who stood off the sidelines, blocked Bremen’s captain Marco Friedl. Friedl steered the ball into his own goal. Nevertheless, the hit remained after checking by the Var.
Feuerherdt now admitted afterwards: “We discussed it internally, we have voted internally and have come to a different result: this is a criminal offside position because Friedl is influenced so much here by Bensebaini.”
The moment Bensebaini lifts the leg, Friedl could first see the ball and then react to it. “The gate shouldn’t have counted.” In the evaluation of the Var, however, the situation was not classified as clear enough to intervene.
Dortmund was already outnumbering at that time and hoped for the first victory of the year after the discharge of coach Nuri Şahin. However, the team played a 2-0 lead under interim coach Mike Tullberg. Bremen still managed the 2-2 equalization.
