Last weekend the skatster caused a stir by taking part in a skating marathon barely two months after the birth of her son Dirk. Although she is not yet at the top fit, she was right eighth.
Return to the skating marathon
Many people were surprised about her return to the ice. Yet she announced it a year ago, just after her last marathon victory. In conversation with NH Sport, she said then: “I have agreed that I will ride a number of marathons. I am not so fit, but who knows I can help teammates. I still have to train and I think it is nice.”
The latter appears to be correct. Because her return in the skating spot tastes for more. “I don’t know yet for this season, but next season I will certainly be there again,” she says with a big smile.
Does she dream of the Olympic Games in 2026?
And next year are also the Winter Olympics in Milan. Would Schouten want to show one last trick there? “No, I am now focusing on recovery, structure and marathons. I am not busy with Milan.”
