TEHRAN (dpa-AFX) – Iranian President Massoud Peseschkian has formulated conditions for a possible end to the war. The only way to stop the fighting would be “firm international guarantees” for a permanent end to all attacks, he wrote on X. Peseschkian also called for reparations payments. In addition, the “legitimate rights of Iran” must be recognized.
Peseschkian did not say which rights he specifically meant. Observers of Iranian domestic politics assume that he is referring to the election of the new supreme leader and his international recognition.
US President Donald Trump called the appointment of Modshtaba Khamenei as Iran’s new religious leader and head of state “disappointing.” This must expect considerable difficulties. “I don’t think he can live in peace,” Trump said. He didn’t give any details./da/DP/mis
