In terms of news headline it can count: Iran defeats Trump. Only it is not about the two warring geopolitical powers, but… about snooker. Iranian top player Hossein Vafaei has defeated the world number one: an Englishman named J. Trump. “I’m not afraid of anyone.”

In a surprising result, Iranian Hossein Vafaei defeated Englishman Judd Trump at the World Snooker Championship. Vafaei now advances to the quarter-finals. He defeated Trump 13-12 in frames.
“I’m not afraid of anyone and they all know that,” Vafaei told the BBC after his big win in Sheffield, England. Vafaei is the first professional snooker player from Iran. No Americans are participating in the championship.
The underdog beats Trump
Vafaei only ranks 32nd worldwide. Patience and perseverance proved to be his great strength.
“This is one of the biggest victories of my career. I wasn’t nervous, I enjoyed every moment. I was born for this kind of situation,” said Vafaei.
Trump, who was world champion in 2019, also responded to the BBC. “This hurts,” he says, “but I had my chances.”
“If you know you just didn’t play a good shot, you can’t blame it on bad luck. I’m not mad about it, I just wasn’t good enough.”
