Invictus Games in The Hague starts ANP

The Invictus Games in The Hague start on Saturday. On Friday, the British Prince Harry, the initiator of the sporting event, and his wife Meghan arrived at the site in the Zuiderpark in The Hague. The event will run through Friday, April 22.

The Invictus Games are an international sporting event for military personnel and veterans who have been injured psychologically or physically during their military service. Creator and patron Harry started the Games in 2014 to promote recovery through sports, support rehabilitation, and build a broader understanding and respect for wounded servicemen and veterans.

The approximately 500 participants from eighteen countries are active in ten sports: athletics, weightlifting, archery, indoor rowing, Land Rover Driving Challenge, wheelchair basketball, wheelchair rugby, cycling, sitting volleyball and swimming. Most sports take place at locations in and around the Zuiderpark. Delegations from Jordan and New Zealand are missing due to corona infections.

Prince Harry attends several games. King Willem-Alexander, Princess Margriet, Prince Pieter-Christiaan and Prime Minister Mark Rutte are also present on some days. The band DI-RECT from The Hague provides the music as ambassador.
