The phone rang at 8:37 a.m. on Friday, September 2. A few hours before. the Vice President Cristina Kirchner He had saved her life by a miracle and the feeling that floated in the air -as she herself expressed days later- was that she was still alive by the grace of God. It was to be expected, then, that her representative on earth would move the chips and issue an official telegram, but no one could imagine that she would take the trouble to make a call: it was the first time that “Jorge”, as presents the Pope Francisco before the people who knew him before, he spoke with her, since 2015. That communication altered the spirits of the Church, of politics and of Kirchnerism, which cunningly spread the news. The Santa Cristina plan was already underway.
For God and for the Country. Thirteen days after the Pope’s call, CFK was shown again in public. In between, everything had happened: a mass in Luján – attended by the President and several priests very close to Francisco– and the appearance of intrigues that came from the Vatican, who swore that the famous call had never existed and that it was a maneuver by Kirchnerism to position its leader, an idea that was repeated by several in the red circle.
But the reappearance of the vice president cut off speculation. She was shown in the Senate together with members of the Church, among whom four villero priests stood out, the group closest to the Pope – with whom she speaks on the phone regularly. Although there were surprises due to the number of cameras, the day was friendly and Cristina confirmed the conversation. “Francis told me that acts of violence are preceded by words of violence”, he said, with a rosary that Bergoglio had given him hanging on his chest. Then the Pontiff spoke with the journalist Lucas Schaerer and confirmed that the communication had existed. The Pope was surprised that his talk and his intentions had been called into question. “If he had happened to Macri, he would have called him too,” says one of his faithful.
But it seems that, with the elections around the corner, Cristina has at least one blessing.
