For the first time, the championship has more foreign participants than Belgians. “That is fantastic of course. They come from Estonia, Spain, Scandinavia… We will have more countries than in the Eurovision Song Contest,” says organizer Claude Willaert.
Seagulls belong to the sea. Everyone knows their typical sound. The jury pays particular attention to the originality of the act and the quality of the call itself. “In the early years it was mainly shouting. Now there are participants who first imitate the contact call between the partners and then move on to the long call. It is sometimes impressive how close it is to the original sound,” says Claude Velter, jury member of the championship.
The eventual winner was Carine from Oslo, Norway.
