Status: 09/26/2022 5:14 p.m

The German U21 national team will be without striker Youssoufa Moukoko and goalkeeper Nico Mantl in the international match against England.

According to coach Antonio Di Salvo, Dortmund’s Moukoko is slightly injured in the neck. You don’t want to take any risks, said Di Salvo in Sheffield. “It’s a friendly. He’s an important player for Borussia Dortmund.” The Salzburg goalkeeper Mantl has to do without because of a flu infection. Both players had to leave on Monday.

At the start of the European Championship season, the German team is aiming for a win in England on Tuesday (8:45 p.m.) after beating France 0-1 when Moukoko was in the starting XI. “We don’t just want to test, we want to be successful”said Di Salvo. “I don’t see it as a friendly, but as a friendly.”

Goalkeeper question open

Di Salvo left open whether the newly nominated goalkeeper Christian Früchtl (Austria Wien) could get match practice. Noah Atubolu from Freiburg is currently number one in the European championship.

Against France, Hoffenheim’s Angelo Stiller led the team in place of the injured Jonathan Burkardt (1. FSV Mainz 05). “It was a nice feeling”, said the 21-year-old, who was only allowed eleven minutes of action in a difficult Bundesliga season after an injury in preparation. Match practice, like the one he had against France, is important. “Of course that’s good for me.”
