International dragging of animals in the calf sector’s Achilles heel: ‘No limits to couples’

Calf farmers are holding their breath. During their tour through the stable, they are extra alert for sick animals. Is there really no calf that is dripping saliva or has blisters in its mouth? There is a fear that animals imported from Germany have brought the foot and mouth disease virus with them. Also in 2001, it was imported calves that brought the dreaded virus to the Netherlands.
