Roma, 24 Nov. (askanews) – On the occasion of the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women, the Minister for Family, Birth and Equal Opportunities, Eugenia Roccella, in collaboration with the OSCE – Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe, promoted the International Conference against Feminicide. These are the words of Eugenia Roccella, Minister for the family, birth rate and equal opportunities:
“Killing a woman is certainly not more serious than killing a man, but it is different. It is different, it has its own specificity and the motivations truly lie in the history of humanity and to change this we must involve ourselves in an action of collective awareness.”
The day’s work saw the participation of high-level representatives from the member countries of the European Union and the OSCE area, the United Nations, the EU and the Council of Europe, as well as the Minister of Justice, Carlo Nordio and the Minister for Institutional Reforms Maria Elisabetta Alberti Casellati. Hadja Lahbib, Commissioner for Equality, Preparedness and Crisis Management, EU, then spoke:
“I would like to congratulate the Italian government for this very important initiative, carried out in collaboration with the OSCE. I believe that we are all aware of the fact that violence against women is on the increase and that we must create awareness, because it is not a problem that concerns only women. It concerns all of us, because it is an attack on everyone’s security”.

Finally, the Minister of Justice, Carlo Nordio, intervened: “In schools we teach, but teaching must take place through example. Respect for the rules, for all the rules and not just those, must take place through the perception that the child has that the parents first respect the rules of one and the other and that respect for the rules, in addition to being dutiful, is also useful because if everyone did their duty, if everyone respected their own little rules they would in exchange have respect from others for their rules”.
A moment of international discussion and cooperation between governments, institutions and experts, with the aim of sharing common strategies to prevent and eradicate all forms of violence against women and girls.
