In Zeeland and Limburg, the reservation periods for taking a driving test have been reduced to such an extent that it will again be possible to take the interim test here from January 1, 2026. Reservation periods have also decreased in other provinces, but not yet enough to reintroduce the interim test.
Minister Robert Tieman (Infrastructure and Water Management) reported this in a letter to the House of Representatives.
On April 1, 2025, the interim test was abolished for a maximum of one year, so that examiners have more time for the driving tests themselves. Due to corona, a large backlog had arisen, which meant that candidates often had to wait a long time before they could take the exam. Result: since April 1, 2025, 36,000 more driving exams have been taken than would normally have been the case.
Minister Tieman: “Six months ago, candidates had to wait up to 23 weeks in some cases before they could take their driving test. If you are ready to drive and then have to wait that long, it is of course very annoying. To my satisfaction, the CBR has succeeded in reducing that period everywhere in the Netherlands: at the end of September this was a maximum of nine weeks, now a maximum of seven! In Limburg and Zeeland the waiting time is even so low that interim tests can be taken there again. I am extremely satisfied with this. this progress.”
The CBR remains committed to reducing reservation periods. Examiners at quieter locations are deployed to provide support at busier locations.
The interim test can be reserved again from November at the exam locations in Kerkrade, Maastricht, Urmond, Roermond, Venlo, Weert, Terneuzen, Vlissingen and Goes.
